Germany: Important information for refugees from Ukraine

Basic information regarding entry, status of residence and organizations to contact for assistance.

Citizens of Ukraine have the right to enter if they have a biometric passport. They may be in Germany first for 90 days. In the city of Berlin, a temporary residence permit is in principle valid until 31 May 2022

If you do not have a biometric passport or you do not have Ukrainian citizenship, you need a Schengen visa. You can apply for a Schengen visa at the visa departments of German foreign missions in neighboring countries Ukraine, for example, in Poland.

For accommodation, assistance or medical support, you can, if necessary, contact the Center arrival at Oranienburger Straße 285, 13437 Berlin-Reinickendorf.

Ukrainian refugees can receive the status of a military refugee in any EU country. Therefore, there is no need to submit application for asylum. War refugees can register in Berlin at the Central Point registration at Oranienburger Straße 285, 13437 Berlin-Reinickendorf. Please do not go there without advance appointment, but make an appointment at service.berlin.de.

After registration, you have the right to receive social services and state support.

After registering as a war refugee, you may be transferred further to another federal state. If You have relatives in Berlin You can usually stay.

As a war refugee, you will receive the right to stay, initially for one year, and you will be provided with a simplified access to the labor market.
