Potential is high, update needed

Jun 18, 2019

The entrance is from the side of the building, not from the front as a visitor can expect, you have to take the elevator to reach 3rd floor. The room was big, wide, bed was clean, while the bathroom very small. In general the furniture is a bit old-fashioned and would need to be more up to date. Too bad I had to fight for one hour to kill mosquitos! The girl at the reception (efficient staff) gave me an electric burner. Bathroom was clean. I found very enjoyable, the night of my arrival, the tables outside where you can drink and eat, very relaxing. Breakfast was ok. The hotel is in the centre of the city, in a very nice green area. In general my stay was ok, a more modern appearance, lighter colours, a more general sense of comfort would help a lot in having a higher degree.

Excellent Value!

Nov 1, 2016

First, understand that hotels in this city are very limited (& I've been traveling there since 1993). So a rating of 4 has to be taken in context - i.e., not quite the same as a 4 in NYC! However, the Gayki is a fairly recent addition to the hotel scene there, & a welcome one. I've stayed there a few times in recent years. It's quiet (unless you're unfortunate enough to get a room on 2-3 fl directly above the ball room & its loud music), clean, & reasonably comfortable. And, it's inexpensive - $18 per night on our most recent visit. (The Reikartz in town is nicer, but more than double the price, & it doesn't get rave reviews.) Each room has a clean bathroom with a "shower cabin" (no tubs). Beds are okay. Breakfast included with the room, & it's a decent buffet (basically the same every morning, however). All in all, it's a great price for what you get, & it's in an excellent location, very near many of the city's restaurants & other attractions. Like most Ukrainian hotels, it's not a resort, so don't look for a lot of amenities. But if you're looking for a clean place to stay at a great price in a good location, this is it.

Restaurant is a deception

Aug 27, 2016

We came with my familly for a lunch there, and got really disappointed. To start, a very good point is the very warm, friendly and professional crew. That's right. But what they offer... is disapointing. First, we asked for 3 "Cherry Punch", and we got 3 sorts of cocktails made of beer with cherry. Not really a punch. Then, we asked for 3 "Pork chile". We got something totally different, that they are proud to call "chili". Not hot or not even spicy, no red beans but white ones. Potatoes in a chili, can you believe it? However, no rice. Instead of meat, we got heavy pieces of fat. All of that swimming in comfortable pool of oil... Definitely can not reccomment the restauarant of this hotel... Very disapointing.

Good Experience

Jun 19, 2015

Stayed at the Gayki in Oct., 2014, with a group of 6. Very clean & well-located near the center of town. Good breakfast buffet & very helpful staff, although no one speaks English, so it's a good idea to brush up on your Russian/Ukrainian if you plan to stay here. I would give the Gayki a higher rating, except it has the typical Soviet-hotel-style beds, which aren't very comfortable, even when brand new. Also, internet was spotty, sometimes only in lobby areas. Still, a nice large room & an excellent value for the price. I hope to stay there again. Options are very limited in this city (which I have visited approx. 40 times), so this new addition to the scene is most welcome.

Buffet Meal

Apr 24, 2015

Enjoyed a good meal at the Resturant. Very good service and well prepared food. Wait staff was efficient and courteous. The atmosphere is pleasant and the place is very clean. Linen table cloths and heat silverware. I would return here again if in the area.
