Although not impeccable in all aspects, Park Hotel is my top pick in town. This year only I stayed there twice. LOCATION: a bit far from the city center and from main Chernihiv sights, so not the best choice for tourists perhaps. But is good and often chosen by business travellers. And is even better for quiet or romantic getaway. Or as a road trip base. If you seek tranquil location in the green area (apart from ugly paid parking right in front) and near the river, it’s an ideal choice. Taxis in Chernihiv are cheap, and the city is rather compact. BOOKING: The hotel is not large and seems popular for corporate events, so quite often gets fully occupied. Few times I failed to book it for the near week-end. No advance payment is required for reservation, and cancelation is free of charge. CHECK-IN: was swift as they had my details. Cards are accepted. The grounds are no frills. There is a small bar by reception; once got very handy when we arrived too early for our rooms to be ready. The hotel has two elevators. If needed, the luggage can be delivered to your room. ROOMS: Budget and availability permitting, opt for suite or deluxe. These two are perfectly spacious, have large bathrooms and any amenities or facilities you may need. Suite has large sleeping and living zones, two bathrooms and a small balcony (the photos attached are of suite). It is simply outstanding in terms of design, comfort and space! Staying there, you’d never believe it’s a 3-star hotel. Both room types are perfectly stocked and equipped, including with mini-bar, complimentary drinking water and coffee-maker. There is an A/C, but I preferred fresh air through the open windows. With all the tables, arm-chairs and sofas, there is plenty space to work, read, or enjoy room service. Free wifi was good and stable. SLEEP QUALITY: Kingsize bed in both rooms was perfect, just of the right firmness. Fine pillows, good blinders and overall quietness provided for excellent sleep… but for one day as they decided to cut trees exactly when I chose to pamper myself with a rare treat of longer stay in bed. The hotel is at dead-end, so traffic is low and causes no noise. There are two restaurants few meters away, but loud music from these dies at night. EATING: Breakfast is included, but is disappointing: rather dull and repetitive. This is when you recall it’s a 3-star hotel. The choice, including of healthy food like fresh veggies, fruits or dairy, is very limited. The video background with the same French movies is annoying (but thanks for turning the sound off!). Coffee is very good. Yet sometimes we topped it with eating in Abazhur in downtown (please, see my separate review). Room service menu is limited, too. But I was pleased to see it changing seasonally. Each meal was perfectly cooked and lovely presented, although servings were smallish for the price. There was tiny confusion with change: they brought someone else’s next morning. More than expected, so no malice, but be attentive. Riverside restaurant outside the hotel is highly (!) recommended (please, see my separate review). SERVICE: is the weakest point perhaps. Housekeeping drags my rating of this hotel down. On my latest stay, the room was prepared as carelessly as to leave used women’s hairpins on the bathroom’s floor. And the next day, a huge spider creeped out from behind the curtain to wish a good night (I was too shocked to take a picture). With insect screen on the windows, it has hardly appeared from the outside. Although, in general, I wouldn’t say the room wasn’t tidy. And there were no similar issues in any of my previous stays. BEACH and POOL: This year’s spring flood has partly ruined the sandy beach by the river, and it looked neglected. Instead, sun loungers were arranged around the seasonal outdoor pool behind Riverside restaurant. Pool opening was on my departure day, so I didn’t catch it. PARKING: Free parking is right in front of the hotel. The lot is small. Once it was full with a seminar attendants’ cars, and the hotel failed to offer me a space. I was only able to park when the event was over. During week-end, there was no problem to find a place. Despite non-exciting breakfast and somewhat relaxed housekeeping, I’m still recommending this hotel as a perfect getaway spot. It has nice location, magnificent suite and surprisingly good Riverside restaurant. The latter two succeeded in making up for any faults for me.
